1.1 Being a Leader

Content

Kannan’s father was reading the newspaper and Kannan came there.

Kannan: “Dad, our school has appointed student leaders. I am also eager to be a student leader in the future. Can you tell me what qualifications I need to develop for that?”

Dad: “Very good interest Kannan. Many congratulations to the new appointed student leaders,  and now I will teach you some the qualities of leadership.

They are….

  • Self-confidence
  • An attitude that equates success with failure
  • Emotional balance
  • Respect the feelings of others
  • Good communication
  • Being Honest and Ethical
  • Punctual and value time

We can all become great leaders when we develop these qualities. I will now elaborate further on how to be a  good leader.”

Kannan : ” Okay Dad ”

Dad: “Our Superstar Rajinikanth, who has expressed interest in politics today is a great example for this.  Before coming to cinema, he was a  bus conductor. He was known for his unique style and this was observed by several during his early days. He continued his unique mannerisms and did not change for anyone. He continued his unique style and did not copy others. All film directors who worked with him indicated that he was always punctual and showed great respect and courtesy to others. Time management is an important character for a leader. Age is just a number and he continues to be without arrogance. He acts with the same vigor and energy till date.  These are some of the qualities that has ensured the position of superstar for our beloved Rajinikanth till date.

Kannan : ” Are you saying we should not copy from others ?”

Dad: “Of course not. Just want to learn from him. There is no point in changing completely like him. The place for him belongs to him. This applies to all leadership responsibilities, such as student leader, country leader, sports team leader, and other team leader. So, we have to try to capture the space for ourselves. Not of others. There are a few more characteristics for better leaders. They are:

  • Lack of arrogance
  • Humility
  • Respect for teachers and elders
  • Being humane
  • Good sportsmanship and appreciating others victory and success even if they are your enemies
  • Time management.
  • Hard work or diligence
  • Learning from mistakes
  • Avoidance of bad habits
  • Making good friends
  • Continuous learning
  • Identify and utilizing opportunities

When we implement all of these, we can be a good leader dear”

Kannan: “From today, I will do my best to demonstrate good leadership qualities, dad”
