Grandmother: “I’m going to teach you about expressing emotions.

Naveen: “What are emotions, Grandma?”

Grandmother: “Emotions are the expression of feelings such as anxiety, joy, surprise, anger, frustration, nostalgia, fear caused by a particular occasion or environment. Like how you react in public, be considerate to others as well, and understand their emotions as well. In short, show empathy to others.”

Meena: “How is that, Grandma?”

Grandmother: “It means the ability to imagine and respond attentively to how someone else feels in a particular situation or to handle that situation. For example, suppose you have a friend, and his parents died. How will you handle your friend in this situation?”

Megna: “Of course the moment of losing a parent will feel very sad. He would feel devastated. I will persuade him to recover from that situation. I will be with him when he cries .”

Naveen: “I will give my friend a toy that he likes. He will feel better when he plays with it, right Grandma?.”

Grandmother: “Yes, You should avoid talking to him about his parents in that situation. He cannot recover from the loss if he keeps talking about it. Similarly, the mood of a person who has lost a competition or a game will also be in a depressed state, so try to console them without hurting. Do you understand?”

Naveen, Megna, Meena: “Yes Grandma. Well understood”

Grandmother: “We learned how to understand and respect the feelings of others. Let’s now see how to express your good feelings.

  • We should not be jealous of the success of others; always praise them with joy.
  • If there are any incidents that may frighten you, let your parents or teachers know.
  • If you find that others are hungry, give them what you have and help.
  • Share your goals and dreams with your parents.
  • Do not harass people if you are angry.
  • Understand the feelings of others and be empathetic.
  • Not everyone is rich so understand your family situation. Do not be stubborn on buying things that your parents cannot afford.
  • Be content with what you have.
  • If you feel insecure, report it to your parents or a trusted adult.
  • If you fail, try again with confidence.
  • Do not be too lonely , try to make friends .
  • Share your worries and happy moments with your parents.
  • Inform your parents if you meet any stranger.
