Dad: “Next, let us look at the attitude of accepting success and failure as one of the characters of leadership.”

Kannan: “Okay Dad. You get started. I am eager to learn.”

Dad:  “Eagerness to learn is a great quality for a leader, Kannan. I am glad you have that in you.’

Kannan: “Thank you Dad”

Dad: “We cannot guarantee success in everything we do. It is important that we continue to chase without giving up the effort. There are a lot of evidences from the past for such great leaders. Thomas Alva Edison embraced failure more than 900 times before inventing the electric bulb. The lessons he learned from that failure were so valuable that we continue to enjoy light till date. Think about it,  if Edison had given up on his failures, we cannot be too sure if we will have light in our homes today.

The next example is Jack Ma, one of China’s richest men. To make Alibaba (the company he founded), a global entity, he needed a lot of. He went and met the bosses of big companies and talked about his internet business and was rejected several times. His attempt to get investments continued to fail. People Criticized him by saying “This is unlikely to happen”, “This is foolish” but Jack Ma never lost hope.  He did not give up in his efforts and eventually he got big investments from some companies. Even though he did not make profits in his initial days, he never gave up, he continued to work hard and guess what, he is the richest man in China today and the value of Alibaba continues to grow till date.

Kannan: “Wow, I am so impressed with all their patience, Dad. Regardless of all the failures they faced, they continued to work hard and never gave up. Isn’t that a great quality dad?”

Dad: “Yes Kannan. You understood very well. I just told you two examples. There are still many leaders like these. You need to search and read about them. We can learn from their lives that failures are the next opportunity to learn. ”

Kannan: “Sure dad. I will search in our library and discuss with mom, grand parents and others as well. Thank you Dad”
