Ravi and Kannan were walking towards a shop on the road. Ravi, spit on the road without any hesitation.
Kannan: “It is a bad habit Ravi to spit on the road like this, go aside and spit it out.”
Ravi found a remote spot with no public walking nearby and spit there.
Ravi: ”Kannan, what’s wrong with spitting on the road? Why did you stop me?”
Kannan: ”Do you want someone else to step on your spit, Ravi?”
Ravi: ”It is dirty. I do not like that”
Kannan: ”Not only that. Yesterday, the teacher taught that if we step on it, there is a risk that the bacteria found in the saliva can cause diseases.”
Ravi: ”I did not come to school yesterday. What else did the teacher say?”
Kannan: ”All right. We do not always spit in the house because we keep our house clean in the way we want. The road is the same. Home is our personal property and the road is public property. It is our duty to protect public property and keep public places clean.”
Ravi: Yes dear. Of course, we must protect them.
Kannan: ”Ravi, think about it. When walking on the road, if someone goes by and spits beside us or we spit near them it will not be good. Others will hate us if they see us spitting in the streets like this. If a vehicle is releasing lot of emission and it comes to our face, do we not get irritated and angry with the driver?”
Ravi: ”Yes. Kannan, we will get angry. It is realistic to get angry when something like this happens while we are washing our face and wearing clean clothes. I now understand the mistake I made.”
Kannan: ”Spitting on the road is a despicable act. We only think of our convenience and spit on the road carelessly and do not realize the harm caused to others.”
Ravi: ”Yes. You are right. I did not even think about this. We need to keep the public space as clean as the houses that are beautifully clean. And today I learned that spitting on the roads is a very bad habit. I will never do this again. Thank you, Kannan,”
Kannan: ”I am glad you realized your mistake. Come on Ravi … let us go home now.”
The road is a public property and we need to keep the road as clean as our homes. Do not spit like throwing trash on the roads. When we spit on the roads, we become susceptible to germs and we may accidentally step on the saliva ourselves. So, if you have a habit of spitting on the road, please avoid it.
