6.4 Do Not Compare Yourself With Others

Content

Grandfather: We will learn ‘Do not compare yourself with others’ in our next lesson. Are you guys interested in learning?”

Naveen, Megna, Meena: “Yes Grandpa! We are interested”

Grandfather: “Sita is beautiful but I am not beautiful ; Dinesh reads well but I cannot read; Sita has a lot of toys, which I do not have. We start to feel for what we do not have because we worry about comparing ourselves with others. We never realize the value of what we have. Depression, inferiority complex, stubbornness, anger, hatred, and jealousy are just some of the negative effects because of this.”

Naveen: “If we have a special talent, we should not tease others who don’t have it, right?”

Meena: “Of course Naveen. Wouldn’t  that offend them, Grandpa?”

Grandfather: “Yes, you are right! We should not compare ourselves with the lives of others. Do not be jealous of them. At the same time, if we have extra or special talents, we should not boast about it and hurt others.”

Megna: “We should live happily with what we have. No need to compare anyone with anyone because everyone has flaws, not just strengths. Am I right, Grandpa?”

Grandfather: “Very well Megna! Also, if you have a habit of comparing yourself with others, you will not uncover the talents that you have within you. You will definitely live happily if you give up the bad habit of comparing yourself with others.”

Naveen, MegnaMeena: “Okay Grandpa!”

Summary

We should not compare ourselves with others. And we should not compare our talents with the shortcomings of others and hurt others. The Characteristics of fish is swimming; the characteristics of birds are flying. Every human being has individual special abilities.  Identify your talents with your parents’ help and travel towards the goal with confidence. Work hard to fulfill your dreams. Don’t forget that if we compare ourselves with others we will miss the opportunity to achieve success in life.
