8.2 Planting Trees

Content

Rahul’s father had bought a book for boys that evening. Yesterday his teacher taught him the lesson about environment pollution and how to prevent it. Rahul eagerly began to respond to the tutorials given by reading the book. You too can learn those lessons along with Rahul.

Rahul: “Trees give us innumerable benefits but cutting down trees results in various consequences to the environment.

Every year the ambient temperature rises and the rainfall decreases. The reasons for this are:

  • Cutting down trees
  • Urbanization
  • Population growth
  • Use of electrical appliances
  • Exhausted gases in fuels
  • Increased buildings

Planting trees brings many benefits to us and the environment. They are:

  • Trees absorbs the air in the surroundings and release fresh air.
  • Helps to prevent soil erosion and keep the soil firm.
  • It circulates water from the earth and retains moisture in the air.
  • It not only gives us shelter but also for birds, insects and animals.
  • Helps with increasing rainfall.
  • Reduces heat temperature
  • Generates more oxygen
  • Brings a relaxing environment

The role of trees in our lives is important but we seek artificial solution without knowing the benefits of trees

The rainy season is the best time to plant trees. Protect existing trees in summer with the necessary soil and water.

Take more interest and necessary actions to plant trees at home, pedestrian pathway, schools and government offices. Studies show that up to 50 lakh trees are cut down every year for various purposes. Thus not only in summer but throughout the year we see the increase in ambient temperature and less rainfall.

Problems faced with cutting trees:

  • Soil erosion
  • Global warming thus melting glaciers
  • Wildfire
  • Extinction of living beings

We should not forget that we are alive today because of the remaining tress that exist in the world that’s providing oxygen. In our lifetime, we should plant and grow at least one tree. This will benefit not only us but also our future generations.”

Summary

Trees are one of the critical things that ensures the survival of human being. The oxygen needed for human respiration comes from trees and each of us needs to maintain at least one sapling and save the earth.
