8.1 Stop Polluting the Environment

Content

Grade IV teacher is ready to teach students about environmental pollution. Let us all learn this together!.

Teacher: “Students! Today’s lesson is environmental pollution”

Rakesh: “Teacher, what is environmental pollution?”

Teacher: “Everything around us is environment. These includes all living and non-living things. The man benefits the most from what surrounds us but man also pollutes the environment with activities such as unnatural deforestation and the consequences are many.

Environmental pollution is mainly caused by the following three ecological factors.

  1. Land
  2. Water
  3. Air

Land Pollution:

Soil excavations, deforestation, heavy use of plastic materials, nuclear tests, civil war, chemical fertilizer use, land affected by factors such as the occurrence of major disasters. The consequences are:

  • Soil erosion
  • Agricultural growth
  • Famine and Starvation
  • Drought
  • Increase in temperature

Measures to prevent land pollution:

  • Avoiding deforestation
  • Proposing soil conservation plans
  • Providing awareness to the people
  • Use of natural fertilizers
  • Recycling process in farming
  • Recycling and reusing materials such as plastic

Water Pollution:

Water is heavily polluted by human activities such as dumping waste, industrial waste, mixing it with water when using disinfectants, and conducting underwater nuclear tests. The effects of water pollution are:

  • Increasing infectious diseases
  • Drought

Ways to prevent water pollution:

  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Avoid dumping garbage in water
  • Strict legal action against water pollutants
  • Providing awareness to students and people about the importance of water
  • Enforcement of laws internationally

Air Pollution:

Atmosphere is the air around us. Air is the most important element for the survival of human and all other living beings. Yet deforestation, nuclear test & attacks, industrial waste gases, smokes from vehicle, smoke by human activities such as space travel initiatives. The consequences are:

  • Increasing respiratory and skin diseases
  • Global warming
  • Increase in temperature
  • Climate change

Measures to prevent air pollution:

  • Raising awareness among the people
  • Recycling of waste products and gases
  • Unleaded petrol
  • Conservation of wildlife
  • Taking legal action against those who emit toxic gases

Environmental pollution affects not only human being but everything around us and the ecological balance is slowly getting lost and we show follow the stated guidelines to prevent environmental pollution. Did you all understand today’s lesson?”

Students: “Yes Teacher”

Author: “Well then please do the exercises I have given”

Summary

Only when the balance of the beautiful environment around us is maintained, we can get the full benefits from the earth and our surrounding environment. This course will teach you how the ecological components of water, land and air are affected by human activities, their impacts and ways to prevent it. We will strictly follow these guidelines in life and avoid polluting the environment and save the earth.
