6.1 Choose a Good Friend

Content

Naveen, Megna and Meena, who live in a village, are siblings. Seeing the trio playing, their grandparents asked them if they wanted to learn about what good friends are. They sat down next to their grandparents with great joy and enthusiasm.

Grandmother: “Guys, grandfather and I will teach you the following topics in human behavior. They are:

  • Choosing good friends
  • Not hurting others
  • Respect for elders
  • Don’t compare yourself with others
  • Expressing Emotions”

Grandfather: “All right. Among the topics Grandma mentioned, today we will look at choosing good friends and helping them.”

Naveen, Megna: “Okay Grandpa”

Grandfather: “A good friend always brings the best out of you. We should also choose good friends because bad friendships bring bad qualities to us.”

Grandmother: “Children, we must be good to our friends too. Let’s see the qualities of good friend.

  • A good friend will guide his friends to success.
  • A good friend will always talk about good things.
  • A good friend will be respectful and helpful to parents, teachers, and elders.
  • A good friend behaves without any discrimination of race, religion, rich or poor.
  • A good friend will try his best to help those in need.
  • A good friend will always do good. Will motivate you to do good deeds as well.
  • A good friend does not have bad habits.
  • A good friend will prevent you from making bad decisions.
  • A good friend wants you to succeed.
  • A good friend will not be jealous.
  • A good friend will want your welfare.
  • A good friend will stand by you not only in your happiness but also during your hard time.
  • A good friend will be the one who prays for your well-being.
  • A good friend will abide to truth, honesty, kindness, and humility.

These are qualities that reflect a good friend. Every friend should cultivate these qualities and be a good friend to his friends.”

Grandfather: “Like I said earlier, a good friend should not be jealous of your achievements. They will appreciate your success wholeheartedly. Jealousy destroys virtues. Develop all virtues that Grandma mentioned above. Good Friends care for each other. For example,  If your friend does not come to school, check with him if he is ok and feeling well. These small things will cultivate friendship with each other. Teach all the good stuffs you know to your friends”

Grandmother: A good friend is capable of shaping you into a good person and you are also capable of shaping your friend into a good person. You and your friend need to help each other in a positive way, so it’s good for both of you.

Naveen: “I understand grandmother. We will be good friends too.”

Meena: “And we’ll hang out with good friends”

Grandparent: “Very Good”
