Kannan and his sister Yashini went to the Super Market with their parents.  They went to the biggest shop in town. There was a guard at the gate who asked them to wash their hands before going inside. When asked to wash her hands, Yashini looked around to see where the pipe and faucet was.

Mother: “What are you looking for child?”

Yazhini: – ”Mom, that uncle asked us to wash our hands but there is no pipe, no sink. How do we wash the hands? ”

Mother: – ”Good question, let me show you how to do it.”

There’s a desk at the entrance in the store with a sanitizer bottle. Kannan and Yashini’s mother went to the table where the bottle is located.

Yazhini: – ” Mom, it looks the same as hand wash soap.”

Mother: – ”Yes, they appear the same except for the name sanitizer. You need to press the top of the bottle with one hand and using the palm of the other hand take some sanitizer. Look at how much mom has taken.”

Yazhini : – ”Mom you have taken so little, is that enough to wash your hands?”

Mother: – ” Yes child, this amount is enough.  Do not take too much. Once you have taken enough, do not waste pressing more than once. Well both of you take a good look at my hands now. You both must follow what I do.

  • First, you press the top of the bottle with one hand and take some sanitizer with the other hand.
  • Secondly, take the sanitizer and rub well with both hands.
  • Then, rub each fingertip well with your fingers.
  • Rub well until the wetness in the sanitizer goes way from your hand in about 10-15 seconds.
  • Then, we are done cleaning the hands.

Well now I can enter the store. You should use the sanitizer in the same way and go into the store with Dad.”

Yazhini: – ”Ok mom”

Kannan: – ”Dad, do we find these sanitizers only in stores?”

Dad: ” No dear, hospitals, libraries, schools, factories, private and public institutions, such as public places where you see a lot of people around, you will find sanitizers. Some places will have soap instead of sanitizer. ”

Kannan: – ” Dad, why do we use sanitizer?”

Dad: ” We have a lot of bacteria and viruses in our hands, don’t we? They can be transmitted from us to another and this can lead to diseases. To prevent this, the World Health Organization (WHO) has urged people to wash their hands in public using sanitizer or soap.

Kannan: – ” Well Dad, me and sister have used the sanitizer now, can we go in?”

Dad: ” Okay Kannan, don’t forget to wash your hands with soap when we reach home.”

Kannan: – ”We have already cleaned using the sanitizer here. So why do you want us to do it again after going home?’

Dad: – ” A good question. I will go home and answer this. Find your mom now and let us  do some shopping”

Kannan, Yazhini: – ” Okay Dad ”
